Distra and HP, as part of their Global Alliance Agreement, have embarked on a series of benchmark and conformance tests to certify Distra's eSwitch payments processing application on the range of HP Itanium Platform Family (IPF) servers. The tests demonstrate the performance and high availability capabilities of eSwitch, including the ability for the same code to execute on a range of operating system platforms (HP-UX, NSK) as well as operate across multiple platforms simultaneously. A key objective is to demonstrate the seamless operation of eSwitch across the entire IPF range. These benchmarks build on previous conformance tests on NSK and Alpha, successfully performed in 2001. Initial tests have been completed successfully on HP-UX Itanium2 servers and have demonstrated exceptional performance results.
Demonstrations have shown that eSwitch provides full in flight transaction integrity and recovery in the event of process failure, with complete service replication and database logging of transaction data, allowing for recovery in near-real-time and continuous operation.
With 6GHz of available power (in 6 * 1GHz Itanium2 CPUs), these tests have demonstrated sustained processing rates above 350 TPS per GHz of CPU. This figure is significantly above previously observed levels, and with 50% headroom makes this a very promising platform for high-capacity switching solutions.
