During the course of a proof of concept project for a confidential client,
Distra demonstrated 500TPS at less that 50 % platform utilisation on a system
consisting of 2 Dell PowerEdge 2850 and 2 Dell PowerEdge 6850 Servers, with
RedHat Linux and Oracle 10G as the database. These servers where delivered to
the Distra team in "Standard Operating Environment" configurations, they where
not specially ordered or configured.
Using complete end-to-end security via Thales HSM-8000 Security devices, the
load was initially simulated with the clients own 3rd party test tools until its
licensed capacity was reached. The test continued using Distra's own STING
simulator to the final figure of 500 TPS. The key to this test was ensuring less
than the final figure was less that 50% platform utilisation, which provides for
the capability of losing half the servers and continuing to provide the same
transaction throughput.
The proof of concept was completed successfully and actually exceeded the
client's performance requirements. The client was reported to have commented,
"four times the processing throughput at 1/10th cost of the legacy
system".
